20th June 2008

As rebuild efforts in Sichuan continue, it's great to see that the Hong Kong social events in June continue to inspire good deeds, this time in the form of SNP Fair Dinkum’s ‘Shave-to-Save’ Champaign. All fund raised through a charity campaign organised by Fair Dinkum Club at this year’s Stanley International Dragon Boat Regatta held on 8th June will be donated to UNICEF.

As part of their dragon boat activities, a number of paddlers of Fair Dinkum pledged to shave their heads for charity should they successfully defend their Stanley Men's B Gold Cup title which they won in 2007 or if they raised over HKD200,000 for the Sichuan Earthquake relief fund.

"We thought 'Shave-to-Save' would be a fun and personal way to inspire others to donate to the earthquake victims" explained one of the committee members, Alvin Lai.

Facing fierce competition and a nail biting finish, the top 4 teams crossed the finish line within milliseconds of each other. Fair Dinkum came 2nd runner-up. Proud of their achievements in the finals and having raised close to HKD250,000 several paddlers and the committee stepped up and shaved their heads in public at Stanley for charity.

"It's good to know our hair's worth something. We would like to thank all everyone who has donated and helped with this charitable cause!" says Alvin.

All proceeds have been passed on to the representatives of UNICEF at Fair Dinkum’s 2008 Season Finale Party on 9th September 2008.
